The sport of Handball sees online popularity growth with live Internet broadcasts.
Network Foundation Technologies, StreamGuys and World Pro Handball teamed up to broadcast the 2007 U.S. Handball 4-Wall Nationals live over the Internet from the University of Minnesota to a world wide audience.
Minneapolis, MN—May 7, 2007— The 2007 U.S. Handball 4-Wall Nationals marked the third live broadcast of a major handball tournament for World Pro Handball (WPH) utilizing the live peer-to-peer video broadcast technology developed by Network Foundation Technologies (NFT). Fans from sixteen nations spread across the globe – from Australia and Japan, to the US, Mexico, and Canada, to Great Britain, France, Germany, and the Netherlands – all watched the live broadcast on their computers.
“Our relationship with NFT and the StreamGuys has had a positive effect on the development of our product and the sport of handball,” said David Vincent, WPH, “Having the opportunity to affordably broadcast our tournaments to a World-Wide audience is just incredible”. The WPH witnessed its online viewership more than double over their last event, the U.S Open of Handball (October 2006). That event brought the largest purse in U.S. Handball Association (USHA) Open history, $75,000, to the table and was sponsored by Simple Green.
NFT President and Co-Founder Marcus Morton added, “NFT’s technology levels the playing field for live broadcasts to large online audiences. The revolutionary cost savings our technology provides, enables niche sports to broadcast their tournaments to worldwide audiences. Advertiser supported live broadcasts need no longer be limited to CBS March Madness type events.”
With the advent of NFT’s enabling technology in concert with The StreamGuys content delivery network capabilities, WPH is taking an exciting and dynamic, albeit niche’, sport to a level that knows no boundaries in distribution.
